Review: Contraband (2012)

Thanks to Churp Churp, I managed to catch the premiere screening of Contraband, starring Mark Wahlberg and the beautiful Kate Beckinsale of 'Underworld' fame.

Synopsis: Contraband is a fast-paced thriller about a man trying to stay out of a world he worked so hard to leave behind and the family he’ll do anything to protect. Set in New Orleans, the film explores the cutthroat underground world of international smuggling—full of desperate criminals and corrupt officials, high-stakes and big payoffs—where loyalty rarely exists and death is one wrong turn away.

Chris Farraday (Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best—running contraband—to settle Andy’s debt.

“Contraband” hits the big screen in Malaysia 15th January, 2011.

Verdict: I would give this movie a 7/10 :)
Watched the trailer only once and I remembered that I wanted to catch this when it's out. I liked the storyline, and it was a little funny how every single thing seems to go wrong for Chris xD and it didn't occur to me about the fml face until Ben mentioned it (now I laugh when I think about it). It was a good cast, and a good mix of new and old people. The storyline was basic, and that's where I think they won, cos a storyline that is too complicated will just spoil the entire movie. What I love is how creatively they can transport the goods and evade capture :D

Perhaps some parts are a little illogical, but overall, the execution was good :) Great way to start 2012 with this action flick! :D
